Parks and wildlife rangers

Working as a ranger in the Territory provides hands on experience in some of the most beautiful places in the Northern Territory.

It is also the opportunity to work alongside and share knowledge with Traditional Owners in one of our 35 Joint Managed parks or reserves.

As a park ranger, you will have the opportunity to work in some of the most stunning natural landscapes in the world, such as Litchfield National Park, Nitmiluk National Park and Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park, the home of the breathtaking Larapinta Trail. Your work will involve monitoring and protecting the wildlife, ensuring visitor safety, and managing the natural resources in these areas.

One of the unique aspects of working in parks and wildlife in the Northern Territory is the opportunity to work with traditional owners. Many parks in the region are managed in partnership with local Aboriginal communities, and as a park ranger, you will have the chance to engage with these communities, learn about their culture and traditions, and work together to protect the environment.

To pursue a career in parks and wildlife in the Northern Territory, you will need technical skills and/or qualifications in a relevant field, such as environmental science or natural resource management. You will also need to have a strong understanding of conservation principles, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with traditional owners and other stakeholders.

Primary Objectives:
Provide specialist advice, technical support, spatial products and customised training relating to Geographical Information Systems and Global Positioning Systems to divisional staff, primarily rangers in remote locations across the Northern Territory. This vacancy may be available in either Palmerston, Katherine or Alice Springs subject to negotiation with the successful applicant.
